yh, id like to know how it works too.
I took the dog out yesterday and locked the car as i didnt want to leave it unlocked in a busy car park. And the alarm went off!
How do i lock the car without the alarm going off if the dog is inside?

the factory alarm has eather a microwave or ultrasonics in it , hence leaving a dog there will set of the alarm... like bandit said lock it with a key ...... or bin the factory as i have a fit a cat1 laserline... no fooker will nick it then .. 3 point imobilser etc etc and u can turn of the sonics/microwave..

reet bandit. . .yer ignition key has a transponder ,this sets the code for engine isolation, yer alarm [imoberliser] is worked off ya doors [central locking] all signals go to a ecu , if using key it says ok all doors are shut un windows up engine orft un bonnet shut[lock] any low life tryin ta open doors or bonnet [alarm go's] . . .ok now the fob, press alarm ont fob un ecu sis all doors un windows are shut so this time dead lock all doors and set the interior movement detector [ no good for things that move inside cab] if low life decides ta smash ya windows [alarm go's]it also incorperates a movement detection,[car jacking] its a good system once set up proper, hope this helps. . . . . . .

Great explanation Ming. So if i lock the doors with the key i can leave the dog inside. is this correct?

its linked to the ecu and to the car..... the keyfob regardless of wether you set the alarm or not has a chip inside called a transponder if you don't have the alarm fob on you keyring the car will not start.. try it....
around the key ign, theres the reciver witch picks up the signal.
when installing a after market alarm as i have done this has to be bypassed,
for obvisous reasons i can't realy go into how to do this on a open forum.
the alarm box is under the fusebox to the right..
i do have the pin outs and the instructions etc. if u really need them.

ok what i need to know is
i'm converting a petrol to diesel but using a rover L series engine, i have the fobs, ecu, and alarm off the car, so the ecu will work the engine
i have a bloke breaking a freebie with the parts i need(6 weeks of searching ) but before he starts stripping my bits need to make sure i get all i need.
i was planning on using the rover ecu but the alarm immob in rovers are linked to the ecu.
is it the same with freelanders
at the moment the petrol engine and ecu are out of the freelander and the lights still flash when arming the alarm
so on this i am assuming only the immob is linked to the ecu and i will be able to get this recoded????
