Creating so many different products with different wheel bases and heights etc could go against the current production of Evoque and Freelander shared components. So they wouldn't benefit further from economies of scale in production. They may increase sales but this would be split across more models. The Evoque and Freelander are already bigger than the average car, which is why it doesn’t make sense to me. Sale price and production cost is a major factor. LR is partially more eggspensive due to lower volume production. If you want a big Freelander 2 you buy a D4 instead. Unless the bigger versions are for overseas markets.

i wonder how hard it would be for me to put a maestro van body on a freelander...
Easy to put the body work on if it all lined up but the dash and electrics would be a nightmare. Peeps often try to make out the Freelander was derived from a maestro van. It’s not the case. They just put the van body work on so they didn’t give away the looks of the Freelander. The van wheelbase and the option of raising it meant it didn’t look too strange. Everyone tried to guess the Freelander shape and made a right mess of it. The crap in the mags around 1994 was proof of this, thinking back.

I think that if LR had something Kuga, Tiguan, Sportage size, it would fly off the shelves, especially if it was pitched with a base model at say £18k, maybe 20.
