My 2007 HSE TD4 has just gone out of it's 12 month "Approved Used Land Rover" warranty and before it did I got the local main dealer to carry out a service.

A residual issue is that occasionally there is no audio from the radio unit, or on other occasions it switches itself off. I'm told by both the dealer and LR Warranty Dept that this is a known fault that can be cured by upgrading the software that controls the radio, but that this is not covered by the warranty.

My local dealer has quoted £60 to perform the upgrade. This seems a stupid situation to me where to have a serviceable radio I have to fork out for a software upgrade - which in my simple view means that there must be something wrong with the original software?

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a remedy which negates paying out to LR for the upgrade?

I have radio problems with the radio in my Freelander 2. Sometimes it freezes or fails to turn on. When it does work and it is turned off the display although blank is still illuminated and therfore draining the battery,
Did LR repair yours on warranty and did the upgrade work, I am of similar mind as you why should it cost when it is a known regular problem and not a wear and tear issue, How did you resolve?

I'm assuming you both run lowline audio units? As in has 6 buttons or whatever in a row instead of 12 or whatever the highline has.

Yep its poor software, the best you can do i guess it kick up a well mannered fuss with Land Rover customer care or a dealer you bought it from (if you bought it from a main dealer) and suggest that they should have made sure the software was upto date before selling it since it would ensure they were selling you a quality vehicle.

Audio lockup after cranking bulletin was released in 2007 by landrover , so im suprised it hasnt been carried out.

Btw the quoted time for the job is around 18minutes (0.3)

Bulletins for general lowline lockup and radio illumination remaining on after locking vehicle were much later bulletins though.

Just my opinion at least.

Get an independent to do it. Anyone with IDS/SDD should be able to do the download. Autologic users can also do it provided they are still paying for their subscriptions. For £60, I'd personally be giving you the option to have a load of updates done while SDD is still connected to the vehicle.
