Freelander 2 at 140k miles... ok or avoid?

Hi Guys

I didn't want to clog up the forum by starting a new post on this topic and did tag this on to another recent buying advice post but didn't get any response so here goes...

I'm currently looking at replacing my Freelander 1 with a 2 and have seen a nice TD4 manual HSE for £7k with a full LR service history.

However, its on 140k miles.

My question is (and please forgive my ignorance), not being the most mechanically minded of people, am I stupid to look at something with this many miles or is that not an issue on this engine given its full service history?

The dynatorque engine is pretty good have seen an early one late 2006 with 210000m on the clock new injectors at 169000m
 
Thanks for your responses guys.

I had heard about the timing belt needing doing at 150k. I have questioned this with the dealer as to whether they would do this for me. They've said that the engine variant is chain not belt driven. I suspected that this might be BS but having done some searching on the web I have seen reports that confirm this.

However, I have far more confidence in the advice found here than via Google searches so if you can shed any light on this that would be brilliant.

So is the Freelander 2 TD4 a different engine to the Freelander 1 TD4 then??

I thought all chains on the TD4 in a Freebie 1 ?
 
It's just engine you need to think about on a high mileage car. What is about to fail in the whole drive train? How many electrical bits no longer work as they should?
 
I'm hoping to run my own to this mileage and beyond and my biggest concerns centre around differentials, clutch and other running gear items, not the engine which should be good for ages yet.

The full LR history means a lot on a car of this mileage and I'd be happier with that than a 70,000 mile car with a patchy history.
 
yes different engine it is a 2.2 ltr I made that mistake once after being told by LR staff it was the same engine I would not want to buy a high mileage car it is different have a car and putting that mileage on as you know what it has done and any problems with this one you do not , and never mind a full service record because a lot of services are just a oil change.

In a high mileage car, that has to be the single most important aspect of the service and the one thing I would be most concerned about in buying a high mileage car. In addition, being a LR service history, they are much more likely to have got the grade and specification of the oil right!
