Hi.
I am new here
i have a freelander 2 2007 diesel model
and it will not start, the lights come on display ok makes its normal noises, press the start button and nothing
i can here a relay ticking. and the lights on the dash are still on,
so i tested the starter motor by putting a multi meter on the starter more and got 12.5 v tried to start the car and got at slight drop. so i put a booster on, to see if this would make a diffrence, as the battery could be low, but it made no difference.
should the starter motor have permeant voltage to it.
or am i completely going in the worg dircetion with this fault.

thanks

stephen
plus if i do need to remove there starter motor do i need to take the radiator out .

Unhook the negative terminal with the ignition lights on, this should reset the ecu and then enable you to start the engine, next, turn it off and on again andlisten for the buzz from the steering lock ... chances are that you won't hear it, so buy a steering lock emulator around £25 - £30 on ebay

Does it start if you remove and replace the negative terminal ? this resets the ecu, be sure to leave the ignition lights on when you do this... Next listen for the buzz from the steering lock, the chances are that you will not hear it, its usually stuck !, don't bother trying to fix it, go to ebay and buy the land rover steering lock emulator, take the 3 wire plug out of the steering lock, and plug it into the emulator....try to start the car, if you still cannot start it, clear the fault codes and try it again...that should then be your problem solved.
Emulator on ebay around £25-30 .
