Hi, I am new to this site so forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place but I am at my wits end!!
I bought a beautiful 2007 Freelander 2 HSE with only 18000 miles on the clock from my local Landy dealer only a month ago. Since then it has been back to them 5 times for a startup fault that happens at various times and not only first thing in the morning. I put the key in the dock and put my foot on the brake (sorry forgot to say its an auto) and I get various HDC messages come up, the temperature gauge goes into the red and then it will say transmission fault along with various other messages. I remove the key, leave it a few seconds it may or may not do it again or it will just start up as normal. Trouble is every time I try and start the car its a lottery. The garage have been:( good and have replaced the PCU, Ive had a new battery and I got them to replace the earthing strap, but bugger me it happened again today when we were out with the kids. I really want to get to the bottom of the problem because I love the car and don't want to part with it but the wife is now insisting we look elsewhere and has a Mitsubishi Outlander in mind!! Can anybody out there please help or I am going to be forced over to the house of the rising sun and having to part with my beloved freelander!!

Try replacing the battery - sounds as if the can network is going down and could be caused by a failed/failing battery

Need fault codes read from the whole car to fully understand what's going on

Car played up again but this time called upon the services of Landrover assistance. Great technician called Kevin came armed with his laptop and after conducting various diagnostics found a fault code that indicated my car had been in a crash, which it hadn't!! He looked deeper at this and found that the fault code required a complete software update which he did there and then. Brilliant service and very knowledgeable just wish my local dealer had acted on this when they first saw it rather than ignoring it, would have saved me five visits since buying the car less than a month ago!!
