Hi to one and all! Nice to finally be a member after logging on as a guest frequently and finding some great advice with other issues relating to my freelander.
I have a Freelander 1 1998 2.0L diesel which has had and now having the following issues.
History/Symptoms
The day after purchasing the car it broke down after doing about 10 miles. Following the AAs assistance I found the problem was due to the 15 or 20 amp fuse to the fuel pump in the engine bay blowing. After replacing the fuse it ran fine for another 50 miles then did the same again. After sticking another fuse in I took it to a Landrover specialist who told me they could not find the problem as it was intermittent and did not happen while they had it, (possibly the pump is on its way out but said not to replace just in case it wasnt). A week later after running fine the car started to over rev intermittently by itself. I cleaned the MAF? Or airflow sensor and all the pipes connected to it and this seemed to sort that problem. I drove the car 300 miles to Bristol (no problems) where the car was to be shipped to Ascension Island which is where I am now living for the next 2 years. After getting the car of the ship it was driving fine for 20 miles then started the self-revving again but only briefly. I used the car for a further 15 mile and then it cut out and now refuses to start at all.
The car is turning over but will not fire up! When the ignition key is turned the pump is making a buzzing noise constantly (not sure if this is normal?). Fuel is getting to the pump and from the pump to the injectors.
What I have checked/done
I am going to check the rear fuel pump (lift pump) to see if this is working but not sure if this would make any difference as fuel is getting to injectors.
Sorry for such a long message but wanted to give all the details I have in the hope someone may be able point me in the right direction.
If anyone could offer some advice this would be greatly appreciated as am stuck in the middle of nowhere so cant just pop to the LR dealers.
Thank you
