You can also buy fobs that come with a unit that you plug into the diag port to program it and then return the box to the supplier. I believe that's about the cheapest way to go.

thanks i been googling and utube nonstop going get price on locksmith with obd2 etc if price ok, if not itl be place above cheers
 
I'd have thought with an 01 car the transponder is in the key. It may be the spare key you have was bought and cut but never had the transponder fitted. Maybe someone else could confirm this but on my 02 TD4 the transponder was in the key.

yer transponder is in old key but yet dash comes on etc

went down toilet fell out as i flushed from hoody

Transponder is in the key for the immobiliser
and the 2 button remotes only do the alarm and locking

Best option without another key is to buy a key from your local Land Rover dealer which is preprogrammed to the car and this needs initialising and the other keys disabling

so i can buy a key which will work direct from landrover pre ready programmed?what about the key i have with no transponder is it no good in reality?

I didn't tell you this but some peeps take the transponder out of their good key, stick it inside the steering column cover where it will always activate and hey presto, two working keys. :D


Only issue is you now have no immobiliser so in theory no insurance if the car is stolen. :(

got new key from landrover wish i had done what you said , boody key comes from usa 7 days and needs programming im told as i cant get car to landrover
 
but need check as i can claim all 101£ for key inc vat from landry threw rac if i have key cover, if going do that il claim a fob too 124£ from landu but at mo can only afford key
