I'm still staggered at how quiet it is.

They are reasonably quiet on the road. However compared to our family Ford Kuga, the Freelander is a cacophony of noise and vibration.

It's wise to check the propshafts are fitted and all tyres are identical and at the correct pressure. The Freelander's 4X4 system is hyper fussy on tyres, to the point where new tyres on the front and half worn on the rear cause expensive issues, even if all tyres are identical, which is a must.

Thanks! at that price i just grabbed it anyway.

I've ordered the pipe & sensor you linked and the above filter kit. The main IAF sensor i see is a "relocation kit"

Would this suffice or shall i just look for the standard variant?

yeah thank you the tyres match and are fairly new. It's the idle running that i find so quiet.

nvm it appears the sensor and wire are attached but dangling down below. I'll try the existing wiring just to try.

I may have been looking at MG, X3 or a 320D sensor without realizing as i cant find it again. Looked similar just with an extended wire

You obviously knew what you wanted and from what you've said have got one that's in good condition body/interior wise. It also sounds like mechanically its decent with that 1 bodge. I'm quite impressed with the bodge actually, and the Tratter boys cars are all held together with bodges like that :) It needs fixing though cos I'm sure it won't last to long and you'll lose all boost (I presume its on the high pressure side of the turbo).

I'm sure you'll get good service from the car. Freelanders are, on the whole, pretty reliable motors and parts when needed are readily available and decent prices.

Follow the advice, take an interest in the car and you'll be fine :)

As one of the poor "unfortunates" :D that owns a P38a I can assure @Bute the Freelander is a less-complicated stable-mate of the P38a and a very capable vehicle.
Very few things are ever terminal on either vehicle and most things can be fixed-by-owner which is wonderful.
Naughty garage for not removing the bodge and doing it right (report them to their local trading standards because they made declarations about the vehicle that you relied upon in your purchase decision). If this minor thing is all that is wrong with it you are going to have a lot of fun.

Looks clean get the little odds and sods sorted and do the checks other have advised you of, looks like a nice motor,I like the wheels are they aftermarket or oem?

They seem to be oem they say land rover but personally i am clueless. Nice wheels and uncurbed. (for now)

I’m not clued up on landrover wheels at all but they look the part,I’m not mechanical minded and I have enjoyed working on mine I bought it as a work horse but have been bitten by it,like Dan Clarke said enjoy.

When I bought my freelander all the warning lights had been covered with black foam because they were all on
 
Mine broke down a week after buying it on an approach to a roundabout and someone drove into the back of me :( ended up been a faulty fuel pressure sensor no real trouble since then.:)

That would be quite the ordeal for me I thank my lucky stars I made it home at least. I'm glad I noticed AFTER the standstill motorway traffic as I would have had a meltdown
 
I was more ****ed that changed the fuel filter first what an arse on that was :mad: I got a new rear bumper and wheel carrier curtesy of her insurance so that was a bonus as they had seen better days.

Try to avoid curbing the 18" wheels. They are stupidly expensive to replace, even second hand. I clean and polish mine every month to keep them looking like new. Sadly I don't bother with the rest of the car, just the wheels.
