My cousin has brought down to France a new clutch and kit for his Freelander. He was going to try and find a local garage to fit it but I have suggested we do the job ourselves. The last time I replaced a clutch was 25 years ago on my 110 at Gao on a Sahara crossing and I acted as the "jack" holding the gearbox on my chest for an hour whilst my friends replaced the clutch plate. My question " is this a difficult job or one which two enthusiastic amateurs can undertake"? We do not have a workshop manual and the chances of finding one here in France are slim.
Many Thanks

Hi Les Dames,

Two enthusiastic people should be more than enough to replace the clutch. In fact, I'm currently planning this job for my 1.8 with just one and a half entusiastic people (I'm the enthusiastic one - my mate will just be there for the ride!)

You can download a RAVE manual online - search for Green Oval (I think). It's free and invaluable (although, a big, big download).

Apart from an alignment tool (which you can make yourself - search this forum) you don't need any specialist tools.

There is a lot of unbolting to be done and a few exhuast bolts, which you will probably have to shear. But that's par for the course, so shouldn't really present a problem.

Get stuck in, I'd say.

Cheers,

Ian.
