It has been a hot sunny day here in France so instead of lounging around by the river with a glass of rose wine I decided to get under the TD4, change the diff oil and soak my hair and arms in some smelly liquid, I had a peep last week and it looked a bit like a greeny grey molasses. A few weeks ago I purchased an oil suction pump from wish.com for about £10, it came with all sorts of tubes including a few feet of soft copper tube which I assume is for changing engine oil via the dipstick opening.

As I could not be arsed to remove the diff plate I sucked out the oil with the pump, the conical top up plug came out easily so no problems there. As I had some ATF left I pumped that in and took it for a very slow run around the block to churn things up a bit, again it seems to have cleaned out the muck. I sucked it out with the pump and replaced it with Castrol Axle EPX 80w90 API-GL5 and a dose of Slick 50. Why this oil, about a year ago my local supermarket was clearing out various oils including the EPX and Syntrans for 2€ the litre so I purchased 5 litres of each not knowing I was to be gifted a Freelander and the oils would come in useful. I just hope I have done the right thing cleaning it out with the ATF and refilling with the EPX and Slick 50. If anyone thinks I have screwed up please let me know, I am not a mechanic so I would really appreciate your feedback

It's definitely better than leaving the old oil in or not cleaning it out and adding new ..

Shouldn't cause any issues at all .. ;)

There's always welding to do .. but I'm almost at the end of it now .. ;)

Oh I dislike the look of the lights, but they're good to see things with in the night, in a forest, up a moor, and angled so I can also see when I'm turning when there aren't any street lights or neon hairdressers signs showing the way ... ;)
