Free Lander 1 1.8

Hi all. I have a oil leak coming from behind the alternator. I checked the Cam seals and they fine. also checked the crank seal. replaced it but still leaking. it seems to come from the head gasket, is this possible?

I think more likely is oils bypassing the inlet cam seal. It can then track behind the cam belt cover and appear behind the alternator...

It is possible for oil to escape out of the head joint. It comes from the head oil feed. It often finds its way into the coolant, before it escapes from the block.
I've ringed the oil way to the head. Is this the area where yours is leaking.

Yes I'd suspect cam seals too. It could also be the cam cover gasket, or a poorly sealed cam carrier. I think if it is either of those you can see it quite easily. Cam seal leaking tends to 'run' down and you could see drips below the crane pulley on the wiring conduit... sump join area.

Hi again. yes this is the spot its leaking from

I've checked the cam seals and they're dry. its certainly coming from between the head and block.

In that case, it needs a replacement head gasket.
Do you know if the HG has been replaced previously?
If so, does it have the Multi Layer Steel (MLS) gasket?
I've seen both the original elastomer and MLS leak before now, but the MLS is more likely to creap oil or coolant externally.

When you have the replacement HG fitted. I'd suggest using the latest Payen BW750 elastomer gasket (blue elastomer) and a new set of genuine bolts. It's also well worth replacing the water pump and timing belt at the same time.

Definitely agree with Nodge - and did exactly the same with mine!
