Has anyone fitted discovery 2 third row seats into the back of a defender. These will be a last resort for short journeys/about the town.

Looking for fitted pictures or info on seatbelt mountings and plates fitted bellow wings and floor for strength.

Any help greatly appreciated
 
Load space seats in Defenders are not worth doing unless Tdci conversions or Exmoors new lock&fold. Ive done it and it was worthless

What do you mean by worthless? Problem I have is I don't want to spend huge amounts of money on them but I do have time and raw materials.
 
Why do you want them? Why not fit sideways facing ones from a D1. Much easier I'da thort. Mind you neither of these will be insurable, if that bothers you. Or registerable, if that is the word, with the DVLA.
 
When folded you loose the arch space

When they are folded down you can just about get 2 adults in, but *just* and you need a third person to get them in and out, cant get in and out alone. You also loose 99% of load space as well.
 
I have the old style Exmoor seats fitted. I use the Puma rear seat belt brackets, with Exmoor seat belts. Under the wheel arches I have had to weld in reinforcement plates and captive nuts to mount them onto. For the fixed point for the clips, I welded another plate and captive nut.
These seats, once adequately reinforced are perfectly safe. I had them inspected so I could safely put my kids in the back, in child seats, and they passed, but it's some work to do. My insurers are perfectly happy with the VOSA inspection report. Again it is a lot of work. You could do it easier with smaller plates and not get them inspected, but is it worth it?
Do not use Disco seats, use seats designed for the vehicle.

Thanks for the reply, where did you find the info on the plate size needed?
Did you weld the plates to the chassis or just bolt them to the floor and wings?

What is the test called at the DVLA?

I used a tape measure and measured how big I wanted them. Went to a local metal workers and had them cut to size and drilled where I needed holes. I bolted the plates in using the bolts for the seats and the seatbelt fixed point and then PU sealed around the edges.

IVA test, the same as for kit cars.
