Forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't see many p38s out off roading. :confused:

Is there a fundamental flaw that stops them being modded for serious mud holes, or are they still too new?

I wouldn't mind the luxury combined with proper, filthy off road experiences.

Until then I'll settle for my beaten up disco.
 
i'll have you know i went off road in my p38 this very afternoon!!!!!!
And in 3 weeks time, when its dried out it may go through the gears on its own!! :p

Look at DorsetVogueSE signature pic - thats proof enough!! :eek:
Alot of P38s are too nice to offroad and peeps are wary of getting electroniky bits wet such as the BECM under the drivers seat.
 
mine is always going off road

it goes on the drive...... on the ramp at the garage (quite alot)...... on the pavement in traffic!!! works car park!!!

thats off road enough for me!!!
 
Redrange and wangie46 took theres to bures. Ive also been laning with wangie46. Wouldnt catch me doing it in one of them though, they are two nice motors!

£440????? not if it was manufactured before march 2001, it will be standard over 1595 cc

In many cases the emissions test data is simply not available for cars registered before March 2001, so, the rate of VED can't be linked to CO2 emissions. Yet, there are still discounts to be had for smaller cars. If the engine capacity is 1,549cc or less, you'll pay £120 (up £5 from the 2007/8 rate of £115) compared to £185 (up £5 from the 2007/8 rate of £180) per year if the engine's over 1,549cc.
The March 2008 budget report included the announcement that the rate for smaller engined cars will be frozen at £120 per year for 2009/10. The annual rate for cars registered before March 2001 and with an engine size larger than 1,549cc will increase to £200 for 2009/10.

i think the fear of taxing a large engined car puts alot of people off buying one, i purposely wanted an lpg pre 2001 car, whatever i was buying and chose a rangie b'cos it fits the bill!!

this is very true...however if you have an older car (pre 2001 march) you may have higher co2s and still pay less... if you have a 2L car march 2001 you will pay £300 and has for myself march 2001 will pay £440...i know itss been done to death this car tax thing ,but like me some of us will have a car made before others and because there car happened to be sold by the dealer a few days later then even though its the same car in every detail some will pay more... now that is wrong dose not matter how you look at it... it should be that any car made ..say 2010 shuold carry a higher charge... by then car would have changed and those who bourght there cars after that date did so knowing what to expect.i have an Anniverasry there are depending on which book you trust between 200-400 world wide..all sold within 10 months of each other.All the same apart from some cosmetics inside yet paying different tax??????
 
make no bones about it, the government don't tax us for the benefit of the envirnment, they tax us for the benefit of, well the government. they don't want people to stop using fossil fuel, imagine this:

i wake up in the morning, as do all the drinking smoking driving adults of this country, and think NO i wont drive to work i will cycle, i will not smoke and on friday i will sit at home and read a book by solar light as opposed to going out and having a few(loads of) pints. now the thing is it wont happen but what would the ramifications be if we ALL did, one day a week????

you would see tax rises on everything!!
coincidently or not as i believe, petrol prices seemed to rocket around the time that the smoking ban was introduced. lost revenue from all the people taking the g'ments advice???

lets try it, see if it works, lets get back to the way things were when the uk did have an opinion! lets vote with our wallets not a silly x on a slip that has no bearing on life outside westminster!!

sorry for the rant but i reckon i have the bones of a revolution there!!! lol!!!
 
There are some seriously tricked out P38's stateside and down under and I've seen an amazing one from Israel. The key difference between them and us is water, almost all GB off-roading involves wading at some point. thats fine while you're moving but if you get stuck in deep water your electrics are in the horrors. Several guys on here have fallen foul of that one.
I take mine off-road regularily here in Ireland but I stay out of water. It semms every bit as good as my RRC.
Theoretically there is little to chose between the P38 and say a 110 defender when at extended height when you compare ramp over etc save for approach angle I think. I think axle articulation (unmodified) comes in the P38 favour and with TC the P38 should have better traction than a standard RRC/disco or defender. I suppose the biggest physical drawback is that they're bloody wide and have a larger turning circle than a 90 or disco.
The other drawback is that there is just so much electronics to go wrong and let you stranded off road between EAS and gearbox ECU etc.

Couldn't agree more mate, that's why I am leaving this country for pastures new.
 
it will end when we have no money whatsoever for the things that we choose to do rather than the things we need to do. i have said it before and will continue to stand by my theory, WE are the ones who CAN make a difference to this situation but it will take a national effort, i'm not of course advocating lorry blockade and riots, we don't need them, just a consumer shift in habbits, paying council tax at the latest oppertunity without incurring charges (after all council tax is due on the begining of the year before any services have been rendered!). parking in free zones rather than at meters where possible and walking that bit further. stop doing overtime at work, you would be suprised how much cash the government take from overtime! get your work to look at 'green issues' and maybe use biodeisel/lpg in thier vehicles. if your self employed/director you could also save money and screw the government by keeping your cash in your bank and using standing order, set up from internet banking or cash payments, that way you get the full amount of interest to the day of payment bieng recieved by the reciever!. and the one thing that WILL get your money's worth from the council, report any defects in council property such as roads, street lights, parks, footpaths, find the number and report it, get names of who you spoke to and complain if you are not satisfied with the repair or lack of!! the main thing is

STOP GETTING RIPPED OFF!

after all you wouldn't give me a fiver a week each for me to buy nice things for my home, would you?? and if you would pm me and we can set up a direct debit!!!

Couldn't agree more.... The British working man has been bending over to pick up the soap for the government for far too long. What we need is a modern day Guy Fawkes.:D
