Flywheel got 2 slots ??

Hi All..

Does anyone have any clue why there are 2 slots in my flywheel where a locking pin can go..They are different sizes of slot..
The truck was originally a 2.5NA and had a defender 200TDi dropped in before I bought it..
At a rough guess the slots are about 90 degrees apart

If it's the old flywheel housing from the 2.5na, then you can't use it to set your timing on the 200 tdi. Timing cover on the 2.5na is on the side. on the 200, it's a bolt hole dead centre on the bottom of the casing. So it's the bolt at the bottom that you use.

The 2.5NA flywheel housing has two slots, but not in the right place for timing the 200. They are on the top of the flywheel housing, on the drivers side of the engine. One is a largeish cover and the other near it is a bolt - is that what you mean?

The 200 flywheel housing has a single drain hole on the bottom where the wading plug goes or the timing pin is screwed in, which locks the flywheel.

Without the drain hole for the locking pin, you are going to have to line up very carefully by eye.

I think we are at cross purposes lol. It's the flywheel itself I'm interested in. My bell housing is a defender one.

Ah well in that case, no don't have a clue! That's what happens when I read posts from my phone - sorry!

I can't remember if mines got more than one or not but regadless, you will be able to work out which is the right one as the woodruff key on the crank will align with the arrow on the correct one - if that's your concern. The fuel injection pump and cam gears also have markings on them.

Yes it does have two slots! I had this problem when timing my pump. Get a good light and look at them both and it seemed obvious which was the correct one if I remember. I guess your timing is not too far out now so its the one that you can see when you can locate your locking pin in the pump!
