Most paint can be recovered far better with a 3 stage (or 4, depending on your view on cleaning) process - which never EVER involves T-Cut (It's far too abrasive)
First wash with a good shampoo if there is existing wax polish, for best results, good old fairy liquid to remove all old wax. No chamois, just microfibre cloths.
Next - clay bar. (I use Meguiars, but others are just as good) This gets rid of all the contaminents and oxides on the surface of the paint (Works wonders on your windscreen as well), with plenty of lubricant. Allow to dry and then wipe surface clean with a clean cloth. Or two. Too easy to just spread the crud around which doesn't help.
Then you can get the Random Orbital polisher out. Panel at a time, with a good polish, working until all polish looks to have gone and you are looking at a half decent finish. This is what gives the finish depth.
Then a good Carnauba wax - again you can use the polisher, but always best finished by hand - straight lines to finish.
Sealers can also be added as a last stage, but a good process to this point should last about 3 -4 months.
I apologise for the next image, but so far my detailing work has been confined to my MX5....
And this is the sort of finish you can get as above. The clay bar has resurrected many a red paint job that I know of!
