hoping for some advice. I have a FL2 and living out on St Helena Island. so unable to go to a Landy dealer. anyway my FL2 would not start. stripped down the Volvo steering wheel lock and found the plastic gearing was jamming. freed it up but time to time it jams. ordered a new one. however replacing it, it does not work. just the clicking noise as it did when it would not start. Can anyone help in what i might need to do to get it to work? Does it need programming or registering in the ECU? any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Simon

Does the ignition come on? (ie the dash light up, steering unlock and immobiliser go off?)
Hi Stv123, with old working module, with the key out there is a red blinking light immobilizer . I insert the key and you hear the lock working. red light continues to blink. took the old module out and replace with the new module. red light still flashing. inserted the key, just hear a few clicks and the red light still continues to blink. no other lights showing. press the ignition button and the dash lights come on as i would expect and radio starts but unable to start engine. Oh I also tried disconnecting the positive lead from the battery for over 5 minutes.

According to the manual, the steering column lock needs programming to the vehicle.
Also I've seen a programming routine on JLR SDD, for configuring a new steering lock to the vehicle, which validates the manual.

Here's an expert from the manual.

On the fault code table at the bottom of the page, second line up from the bottom, it says SCL (Steering Column Lock) not programmed, with will prevent it starting, and flag the code shown.

There are instructions on various websites, including this forum which explain how to repair the SCL, which is the best route to take, if you don't have the necessary equipment to programme a replacement.

thanks Nodge68 for the info, greatly appreciated. we have a mechanic shop here who has a diagnostics tool for landrover so will give them a call this morning. At the moment i am frequently repairing it, but it means removing it, opening the case and freeing up the plastic cog wheel that is turned by the metal spiral motor. changing either the gearing system or the complete module is the best option i can see at the moment. :(

Why not use the mechanical components from the new lock, but the programmed circuit board from the old one? That's what I'd do, if I didn't have access to SDD. ;)
