FL1 OBD2 port

Hello,

On my Freelander DI2.0 '99 there's a port that looks like an OBD2 to me:

It says 348822 AMP on it. Does anybody know if it it really is OBD2?

I'm thinking of buying an ELM327-WiFi to access it from my iPhone. Has anyone tried if it works?

Its not compatible with generic ELM ODBII dongles. You need a device bespoke to the Freelander L Series (or possibly Rover L Series).

At the end of the day there are various devices that say they can work with the L Series Freelander, and in other text say they can not. The only 2 that are guaranteed to work I believe are the Hawkeye and Lynx devices.

The OBD port on my 2005 Td4 is next the pollen filter in the passenger footwell. I can't make out if thats where yours is from the photo. I bought a cheap ELM dongle off eBay just to try it out with my iPhone, and it works surprisingly well, despite the listing saying it would not work with a diesel.

However, as Grumpy says, its is unlikely that a generic ELM dongle will work with a 1999 vehicle, so would be a waste of your £5.99.

That's about how much I wasted on mine... but it has cleared codes on my mate's Mazda Tribute OK!

EU required all petrol vehicles to support OBD2 from 2001 and diesels from 2003. Prior to that most vehicles (including LR) had primitive and highly proprietary support.

The final confirmation that you probably need something more specific to your '99 vehicle is that the ELM dongle has a different profile to the port shown in your photo so would not fit.

I have tried a bluetooth ELM dongle on my 99 FL1 1.8 Petrol, it powers on like it should but couldn't find the protocol, then I checked some documents to find out until 2001 we have a different software with different protocol. then I tried a VAG-COM cable with CH340 chip, it connects with a pc alright but I have not messed around so much so I don't know much about what can it do or not.

It is physically an ODBII spec port - so the dongles will fit. The docs also say it uses a protocol that the ELM devices support, ie ISO 9141-2 or ISO 14230-4 (also known as Keyword Protocol 2000 or KWP). But it don't work!

I'm talking to a bloke at the moment who might be able to supply something cheap for L Series, but it will only do engine codes and live data - not ABS, SRS, CCU etc.

Same here. Have 2000 FL1 and found that obd does not support my generic ELM327 with torque app on my P9. Powers up but no protocol found. Had a spare one from my two old cars so no money wasted here.

I stand corrected, on closer scrutiny of the photo I can see that the ELM should fit the port.

funny the years seem to differ in the eu

i always thought it was 2004 for the diesels but expect ur spot on

but know u also quite right regarding the obd2 ports where a lot of so claimed readers simply won't give u the right information

mine was a 2002 and the hawkeye defentky works on all the pre obd2 freelander models

they don't make it easy do they

will be an interesting thing when i get my new iid diagnostic as it's supposed to do everything apart from make the tea

Find one that is based on the Samsung 7 smart phone and it will be able to make tea - or at least boil water.

will have to be quick and keep the water content down, depending how long the phones flame burns for,
