That hurt.

Na, I'm gonna leave it until my TD packs in, then if I can't breathe life into that, I'll rip a 300 tdi out of a disco.

Have you done your valve clearances? Might be worth a look - might squeeze 0.9 MPH more out of it on those hills!

Yep I've done this. My 2.5TD had been basically rebuilt by previous owner and the engine was in very good nick prior to me fitting the intercooler. Allard make an intercooler kit to fit the 2.5TD which consists of ali and silicon pipework and an intercooler that fits in front of the radiator between the two support brackets with the pipework fitting under the radiator. Difference is huge. It pulls up all but the steepest gradients in top gear now. Doesn't make much difference to the MPG but its worth it for the power alone. If your speed drops to 30 uphill it might not be the best thing to do.

Thats the answer I've been looking for!

I'll fit me an intercooler on her then, cheers mate.

I looked at Patman's post and I'm not up for all that.

How much dya reckon it'd cost at a garage?

My uncle owns a garage that does a lotta stripping down of BMs, reckon I could stick a V8 in there? I've seen rumours of this around but nothing solid, I can imagine a lot of work and a lot of reliability issues.

Ya not up for that but you want to fit a V8 :brick:

The 200TDi conversion is one of the simpler ones to do (I am doing one at the moment).

I fitted an Allard intercooler onto my 110 TD (19J) at around 120,000 miles and did another 60,000 or so with no problems. Hills I could only go up in third previously I could go up in fourth with the cooler fitted. Not much improvement in mpg, maybe marginal, but it worked fine for me.
I still have the cooler here (fitted a 200tdi instead of the TD) with the fancy pipes so if you're interested let me know and we can work out a deal if you want. Its the item here:Allard Turbo Sport - Land Rover as detailed for TD engines.

Been looking at buying an intercooler for my landy, just so she can go up hills really.

  1. Will I have trouble fitting it?
depends on the size and place you fit it
  1. Will it make that much difference?
it should provide more power/torque since there is no IC there in the start so you'll cool the inlet charge down
  1. Is there anything better I could do?
other than fitting a newer more powerful engine, no
Sam

you may have to increase the boost because of a pressure drop over the intercooler.
