I have a 3.9 v8, with manual gearbox, avialable and am considering fitting to my Series 3 (part 2A). Anyone know wher to get info on the way to do this? Is there a club in Essex with memmbers who have done this, or somoene who wouldnt mind advising on this?

Any help much appreciated :)
 
Fitting the V8 to a series , is not a technically difficult job, but involves a lot of work, and expense. Due to a lot of ancillary changes.
The gearbox included will really complicate things, eg getting it in size wise. Drive train mods eg prop shaft lengths, going from part time 4wd to full time 4wd.
What is condition of series vehicle? it would need to be exceptional to justify cost, also what is end result you are looking for?
 
I fitted one years ago, what I did was use the standard Gearbox and transfer box,( I know it wont be as strong as the Range Rover box ) but it wasn’t for me.
I used a Bell Housing from a landrover 6 cylinder engine/G Box, this bell housing fits perfect.
You can tell the difference between housings, the 6 cylinder one is slightly smaller.
The other normal issues apply, exhaust throttle linkage etc
 
I've got a 3.5 V8 in me III running through the Series box & it's fekin great! As long as your Series box is in good nick & you take it easy thru the gears (I don't on occasions just cuz it's bluddy fun!) it'll be fine. I've done some pretty extreme stuff in mine without incident & I enjoy using the choice available with the Series gears.

You'd need RR diffs so's not to rev the nuts off it. I'm running 235/85s & have an overdrive fitted too. Gearing's pretty much spot on for everything from offroad to motorways.

A 3.9Efi int that much more complex than a 3.5 & you'd see worthwhile gains with it if you added a gas conversion at a later date too.
