Evnin folks, as per title , fitted steering guard today all was going well till I got to the steering box bolt, I eventually got the nut off using a 5 ft. ( no joke) breaker bar ans began to do the same to remove the bolt but it seems to be very tight in , I even resorted to my precision adjusting implement I.e. a feck off hammer but no movement at all.?

What am I doing wrong? Is it under load and needs jacked up to support it? or is just a beatch to remove?

no, what you need is heat - get yorself a minimum of a propane/butane blowlamp, hotter the better, and heat the fecker up til it glows, it will take a while, then hit it and it should pop out.
it of course goes without saying that you will need to replace said bolt with a new one :).

Don't know about using an angle grinder:confused:. Using the dremmel is a lot easier as it's smaller & there's less chance of damaging something else:D

I had to remove the one on my disco. same problem

I solved it by using lots of releasing spray, putting the nut under tension by sticking a Jack under the breakerbar. and belting it with an hammer whilst heating it up with a MappGas powered blowtorch.. Poor fooking thing never stood a chance really... :D

When i had a disco i was faced with the same problem - i used a long bar on the end of the bolt and whacked the end of the bar with a big hammer - to push the bolt through the chassis so i could fit my steering guard ;) SORTED :)
