Fitting a new stereo

Hello Gents,

I am trying to fit a new stereo in my 94 Discovery and its a bit of a squeeze ..... hours of fun being had!!!! I have fitted the cage and connectors but i am trying to position the cables and connectors in such a way that the unit will lock into place. My best effort is 10mm away!! Is there an adaptor plate or spacer that i can use to increase the depth of the apature??

You can get a spacer which ads more depth from Sounds4Wheels on eBay

Stuart have you still got your old L.R stereo?

Hello, no i have not got the old one, i have had the land for ages but never bothered with the stereo. I have plugged in the stereo and all speakers work but just cant lock the thing in!

Thank you! i have just purchased one, Halfords told me that the stereo would fit and there was no such thing as a spacer / collar for use with this purpose.

Hi I have just had the same problem with my 93 disco. I cured it by doing the following (after a bit of struggling pushing cursing etc)
Remove centre console and fit radio,
Reroute all wiring out of the way, while your doing this check to see if your disco has still got the factory fitted iso connectors. If it does use them makes life so much easier.
Cut away the sound proofing from the transmission tunnel.
Place centre console back in position and reach underneath to plug aerial and wiring connectors in.
refit console and screw it back in position.
Radio should now fit without the use of spacer.

I fitted a kenwood cd player it's the longest radio I've ever seen. and it fits perfect.

Having just seen the spacer you've brought it doesn't looklike it's gonna be much use. As once you use it you wont be able to bend the locktabs and secure the radio in the car. Anyone who breaks in will just be able to lift it out and walk away with it.

Luckily for me the security cage which came with the stereo has the fixing tabs down to about 20mm so i will be able to secure it in place. A friend of mine is has read your post and is going to use your method of fitting the stereo as opposed to mine.

probably stating the obvious but he'll only need to cut away the soundproofing where the radio presses against it. I cut about 2" off it.
