Quick question, I'm going to put a new second hand Diff on me 90 tomorrow before goinf back to tackle the water use.

I have a paper gasket for it, but I wondered if I should be using instant gasket instead?

Just wondered, I also have to fit a lift pump as well, that leaking.

Oh my good my car seems to be full of holes!!!! His name might change soon from Jo to Sive.

Lastly I had a quick peek, it looks like I have a leak from two core plus, I will put a pickture up soon, has anyone managed to replace these in the car, and cn I get a tool to get them out and then reset the new ones.

I use gasket goo .. never had an issue.

I used gasket and blue hylomar, be careful with any paper gasket and silicone goo as the silicone can allow the gasket to ooze out sideways.

I used a pre made gasket with instant gasket on both sides and everything looks oil tight over a year later on both diffs. I was inspired to do so by reading on one of the Aaron Morris rebuild threads that he'd just used the gasket and was getting a weep. The studs are 3/8" UNF and may need a clean up with a suitable die because the free end of the threads gets very congested with rust and road dirt. A lot of my nuts stripped as I was getting them off, so I had to split them with a chisel. So it helps if you have some spare 3/8" UNF nuts about too.

Yes Land Rovers are full of holes. If I didn't know what it was, I'd think it was some kind of colander or maybe a doily.

This is what I do, a thin smear on each side works for me.

Ok Diff done, I used a paper gasket with a smear of gasket stuff, just did not have a bottle to fill it up. The old diff was very stiff and there is some play in the main crown wheel. So perhaps that was the noise issue, only time will tell.

Next I'm going to tackle the water pressure, I might have to take the head off.
