Fitting a diesel night heater

I am about to fit a night heater for the laning weekends as sleep in the disco, I've never fitted one before and wondered if anyone can give me any pointers o. Best place to fit ect, my disco is a commercial so no rear seats fitted, also I do quite a lot of Offroading/laning and was wondering about the exhaust placement to avoid getting blocked? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance Tim

i'm afraid i don't have any advice - and i have a 110 not a disco but which one are you fitting?

it's something i would like to do - night heater/engine preheater/water heater

I'm fitting a webasto air top 2000st with digital timer/controller if that makes any difference

Phil has one in his Disco, he chopped the rear trim panels about and mounted it using the old bolt holes from the dickie seats, he used a hole saw to pop 2 holes through the rear inner quarter skin and dropped the exhaust down by the rear mud shield flap mount and the intake up the rear door pillar. He had a 10ltr tank made up to go in the rear passenger foot well under the bulkhead(over here commercials have to be permanent and have a minimum 200mm raised bulkhead behind the seats which leaves a stupid odd shaped void, Phil had the tank made to run the night heater on red diesel he also has a 50ltr water tank there too) the hot air duct goes up the "B" pillar and has a diffusing outlet pointing down over the rear load bed where the camp bed goes.

Sorry but he lives in East Germany and a bit of a hike to get some snaps, but will ask if he has any on his laptop?

Don't forget to check the exhaust every time you use it.
I would fit a carbon monoxide alarm too just to be safe

Thanks for all the advise, will start the install as soon as I get time, will try and do a few install photo's but I'm usually not good at that as get carried away with the job in hand and forget to take photo's

Its full of safety features, blocked exaust, inlet, low battery,fuel, any glitches and it goes to auto shut down.

@hughdavies I just found this thread, and was hoping for some advice please, if I may? Im looking to install a diesel heater in my D2, and was wondering if you experienced any issues fitting it under the passenger seat? Was it easy to drill the holes for the inlet/exhaust and seal them?

Put the photos up again for you. Used the old ERG pipe to give me a stainless exhaust, put the inlet to draw air from inside the chassis. Took the fuel feed from the pump, blue pipe in photo, and put it through some rubber pipe for protection. Fitting it all is straightforward, but i am an engineer, you will also have to do the electrical side of it all lift pump, thermostat etc.

Did you make an a different fixing plate or was it another plate to help with sealing to the floor? Was it just the square you cut out of the carpet or did you need to cut more away around the inlet/outlet on the heater? Was it easy to get a good seal against the floor? Does the heat cause any issues with the plastic trim under the seat etc?

I'm so sorry for all the questions, don't want to set my car on fire........!

I think I'll be OK with the rest of it.

I have shown you the template I made to cut out the floor, mastic seals it fine, if it caused any problems it would not be there now. Also I do not know what heater your fitting it might be totaly different.
