My new Midland 248 arrived today with a SWR Meter and new Springer and mount, so after an hour I got it all fitted and with a SWR of 1.5 straight off I was quite happy. I couldn't believe how quiet the air waves are though, nothing like 30 years ago. I eventually got a rig check from a passing truck driver about 3 miles away so at least I know its working, I'll post up some pics in the next day or so. I'd like to see anyone else's set up in their Disco, I mounted mine in the drivers foot well, just about where my left knee is.
That's blocking an awful lot of you're swept area and could easily be a good reason for ya insurer to walk away if you were ever involved in an accident. Might be worth shifting some of it..
Pics as promised.
It was only AM that was illegal back then, just about everyone I knew was on the air I met several girlfriends over CB.
In those days we didn't have Mobile phones, or Computers and if you were really lucky your parents had a phone in the house on a party line with the neighbours, it was always fun listening in
History of UK CB RADIO
That is a nice looking setup.
Your Quick Realese doe's that have a spring init I had one and the spring kept falling out, lost the spring down a drain so it's now just bolted to the dome mount
