Hey - just registered so I can get a good look around the forum. Considering dabbling with a Defender for bit of a run about, a bit of minor off-road to reach some surfing spots and to carry some kit for my business (wedding photography and photobooth hire).

Had a bad experience the past week when our VW Transporter got caught on sand on our favourite surfing beach and the tide did the rest. Van totally buggered so considering something that's got a bit of character and perhaps some work needing done for a small project but ultimately won't turn to crap when the sea and sand try to kill me.

Looking forward to asking, searching and hopefully buying in the near future.

.

You might be better off looking at a Discovery, at least for carting the photography kit around in a little more comfort. Discos are more than capable at minor off-roading.

WELCOME!

Hands up who wants some VW porn? No chance, it was pitch black as it sat sucking in the seawater on New Years Eve, my wife couldn't take a picture through her tears and I was just glad to get it fished out by a local farmer. Either way, it was an experience... hopefully never to be repeated again! Hard enough feeling totally helpless but the worst bit was trying to get a taxi on New Years Eve for myself, my wife and our 2 dogs!

As for the disco (check me with the lingo) and even the defender or any landy (there's that lingo again) I'm keen to learn welding and some general mechanics. Grew up on a farm and always remember thinking that if dad could weld bits and bobs, rather than handing it to someone else to do it would have made life a lot simpler. I'm keen to learn and do enjoy tinkering so an uncomplicated piece of machinery would be a good starter.

my disco would keep up with a standard fender off road all day long.
