The video I posted above featured a FL1 with the older General Grabber AT2 tires. They were good oft road but orrible on road. The FL1 suspension can't take out the rumble of those tires due to the tread pattern being aggressive. Hence the noise and vibration enters the cabin. That's what made the on road driving orrible. As soon as they were gone all returned to normal. From that date onwards I ran Pirelli Scorpian STR. A road based tire with enough grip to go oft road. The bigger rustier LR's can ride with orrible tires like the AT2 as their suspension can take out the vibration.
Regards mods... historically if yer went above 40mm yer had to make some small cuts. The most peeps would go to was 50mm. Some did and some didn't need caster correction. The kit basically puts blocks of metal above the springs to lift the body. To be frank yer can do a similar lift by just fitting biggerer tires. If yer have a look through the freelander section for idea's you'll be able to see what others have done. If it were me I wouldn't do anything until you have driven it for a bit and made sure it's all in working order before spending money on it.
