Hello to everyone, after 2 weeks, well, no in fact 4 weeks, it all started with the failed MOT extensive welding on the rear wheel arches at an eye watering £1468. The guy did a really good job and even painted the finished arches. The said garage removed the side steps as they were corroded prior to the welding. After 2 weeks she came back with a new MOT. She looked naked without the side steps, which would not be a problem really, but my son who is disabled and loves riding round in it, needs the side steps to get into the car. I asked the said garage what would it cost to replace the side steps ( I think I mentioned this bit before on a previous post) he said it would be costly as they would have to remove the petrol tank. Right so, I ordered a set of side steps from the now famous ebay for £185. I knew the said garage would have just cut them off with an angle grinder or similar, fearing the worst, I contacted my local garage, who have done a lot of work on the car in the past, before said garage got involved, all down to a rattle in N/S/F at about 25 to 30mph, which they did fix at a cost of £300.. The local garage said no problem, we can fit them, I was a bit sceptical, knowing what they might find underneath, on the MOT the rear brake pipes were mentioned as being corroded, so could the local garage do them as well, sure was the reply. After 2 weeks she was ready, the guy said we had a few problems, I said with the side steps, he said no, the bloody brake pipes, what a ballache they were, total cost £1380. Here is some pics of the car with the new side steps fitted and shot of the whell arch.

Costly but looks nice.

can’t see fuel tank being involved in steps. I fitted steps to ours and didn’t have to disturb anything else to do it.

That looks sweet! I am a recent convert so can see why you would spend that on it :)
Yes, it cost me a bit, well quite a bit, to date, after I totted up all the receipts, I was astonished to realise it came to £6467 in 2 years, it might be a lot, most of it was worn out components.
Some of which were the original equipment at manufacture, like the air struts etc, she runs great even with a BMW M62 engine, which is sweet by the way, only problem now is getting a bank loan for the petrol.
