Hi guys, finally got my p38 4.0v8 running for longer than 10 minutes now. I changed the crank sensor and now is running nice, apart from, the temp gauge is having hissy fits. It will climb slow until it gets out the blue then will go up like a minute hand on a watch. But only every now and again. Sometimes it will climb steady up to half way then move quickly to 3/4s. Then go back to half way, then shoot up to bring the temp warning light on. Turn it off and start it again, the gauge will read between half and 3/4s. The top water hose has got slight pressure but not rock hard, and the heads look as if they have been refurbed, heaters are getting hot inside the car, so dont think the head gaskets have gone.? Sometimes you can hold the revs on and the gauge will go down, and sometimes you can hold the revs on abd the gauge will go up. Any ideas please? Much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, already put a new temp sensor in it, might be the wrong one coz there was a choice of two, a brown plug and a black plug. Mine has the black plug on the sensor but brown plug on the car. Gone to move it over tonight and the bloody thing is playing up again. Started up mint, reversed it down my drive, then put it into drive to pull back up and over, it cut out. Started it, went to pull up again, cut out again. Started it up again, cut out straight away, started it again, revved it come off the revs, it cut out. Started it again, left it to try and tick over, revs up and down between 1200rpm and 0rpm, then cuts out. Wouldnt move at all, typically stuck in the middle of the road with no tax and mot on, and no chance of pushing it back on my drive. Bloody thing. And to top it all off, while trying to balance revs against brake to get it into gear without it cutting out, the bloody thing popped a rotten brake on the rear!!! Any suggestions would be really really appreciated at this point. My plan tomorrow if I get chance is to put some more petrol in it, a good £20 worth, change the existing 4 spark plugs on the drivers side head, remove the thermostat, and replace if I can get one tommorrow, and put the old temp sensor back in for the time being. And an engine and gearbox service, as at the moment its got more faults on the dash than the government.

Hi mate, Im in Walsall West Midlands. My mates got a snap on scanner, but just want to get it running better to start with. Its been off the road for 3 years so hopefully some of the faults are there through lack of use? The main problem is the temp gauge go up and down like a rev counter, and the missfiring until 3000rpm. Earlier it was popping in the engine and in the exhaust. Loads of black smoke so guess it's overfuelling.
