Freelander 1 Filled a diesel Freelander 1 TD4 with petrol - is it terminal?

Diesel is a fool and a lubricator, all in one. Petrol is a fool and a solvent so it's also a cleaner. Cleaning bits yer want to keep lubricated is the worst of the two.

Hi,
I have owned a Freelander 1 TD4 for 14 years. In a senior moment I have filled it with petrol and ran it for about 2 miles before it stuttered. It was over a quarter full with diesel before I topped it up with petrol. My insurance company tell me that their policy will be to write-off a vehicle over 10 years old after a miss-fueling. I like the car and want to keep it running for as long as possible. Any idea if a drain off and filter change will likely fix it?
Just been through this, put nearly 60 litres of Petrol into an almost empty Fl1 TD4. Only drove a few feet (300) to get back home. Lifted the seats, removed the cover plate ( rigthand side behind drivers seat) be careful as the carpet is very easy to tear and rip, as me how I know!). The Submersable fuel pump can then be taken out. Use a big flat heat screw driver and a hammer to tap the securing plate round and then lift off, you will need to disconnect the Fuel feed and the fuel return pipes along with the breather and the electrics for the pump.then the pump can be lifted out, be aware of the float that is on a thin steel rod and may be easy to bend.
I used a hand pump to remove the petrol, I found it very difficult to establish a Syphon as the tank is low and the height of the Jerry Can quite high. Wife then used her Turkey Baster to remove the last traces of Petrol from the bottom of he tank. Replaced all the parts of the pump and reattached the cover plate. TD4 started first time and is running like a sewing machine again.

I didn't realise insurance companies typically covered mis-fuelling or am I missing something here?
I would be surprised if they did. The AA and others with send a mobile unit to solve miss fooling for £200. It's not worth an insurance claim if they did cover it.
