Howdy, just completed a massive rear chassis rail job for the DOE and it passed with flying colours. Now over the last week it has developed a loud clunk and screech noise when driving.
Firstly when I took her for a drive today i reversed out of a parking space and locked the wheel fully right to take off, as i did I got the traction control sound and tc light came on for a few seconds. It was a normal take off on concrete with no wheel spins or anything like that, weird
Anyway as i go to take off theres a clunk as I let off the clutch...
Intermittently as im driving theres a loud schreeching noise in all gears 2nd - 5th gears. After a while it goes and then comes back. Its not there all the time and only started when this clunking happened.
Later, travelling down a hill at 50mph i brake slightly and then give her throttle, and the clunk again comes from lets say the gearbox/propshaft area. Everytime I brake and accelerate theres the clunk.
I slow her down to a stop and then drive forward and backwards slowly riding the clutch. the clunk seems to come at a certain biting point of the clutch.
I crawled under and checked the front prop, no play it only moved about 1cm each way. Looked reasonably ok and all bolts were tight. Same with rear doughnut, in good condition and all bolted up.
The handbrake was on so no play in the rear prop. Should I have tested this with handbrake off and wheels chocked?
I think its definitely not the rear A frame bush as the clunk was there when i was riding the clutch inching forward slowly and it was definitely coming from the front prop or gearbox side i was guessing.
I'm at a loss to think what it could be. Anybody any ideas or point me in the right direction?
