hi again, just bought my first defender 90 300TDi, and its had a new chassis & bulkhead. But with the bulkhead came a lot of wiring apparently, so theres a few things I need help with. I didnt do the wiring as I'm not very good with it but think the problems should be straight forward hopefully.

problem 1: When the headlights are on, and you put it to full beam, the dipped beam goes out, so you can't see directly infront of you, but can see very far ahead. Is this what it should be like? or has it been wired wrong?

problem 2: I've fitted a stereo, but whenever (8 out of 10 times) I brake, indicate or put some lights on the stereo cuts out for a second and loses power.
Has anyone got any idea how to fix this?!

problem 3: Theres some spot lights fitted, but they're not wired up, I wanted to wire them up for high beam, would I need a kit or is this pretty straight forward?

problem 4: The heater/blower doesnt seem to work at all, is there any way to trace where the problem would be coming from?

Thanks!

Max

Problem 1: I'm pretty sure this is normal for most vehicles.

Problem 2: Yeah, that doesn't sound right. Impossible to say without seeing it what might be wrong. Its not uncommon that people wire radios up wrong. But if that's not the problem I'd want to get to the bottom of that. You should put your rough location in your profile in case anyone local might be able to have a look for you.

Problem 3: Yes its straight forward if you're a little technically competent. There are loads of threads on here with wiring diagrams for spots. Have a quick search. I'm sure there are a couple of kits out there, but they will be over priced for what they are. Now that you own a landy, you might as well try to learn these type of practical skills, as it will save you a fortune.

Problem 4: You mean the fan isn't working or it just isn't warm air? If the former, check the fuses and that you're pushing the switch far enough. Its a big slider switch, but only the last two millimeters does anything. If the later, welcome to landy ownership, the heaters are ****e.

Oh right, I think when the spots are installed I'll angle them down to compensate for the loss of the dipped beam then.

I've put my location in now, but I think it's either to do with the alternator/weak battery - as the headlights dim ever so slightly when the brakes are pressed etc - or its a dodgy ground, so i'll have to trace the earths and check them. The guy i bought the stereo off said it was hard wired, so that you can turn it on anytime, do you think it could be to do with that? I could try rewiring it back to normal and see if that helps at all I guess.

Ok I'll give that a go once I've picked up an A-Bar to put the lights on, as I just took the bullbars with the lights off.

I'm not sure,I think that maybe there is slightly warm air coming out, but there is no noise from a blower etc, so dont think thats working at all. I'll have a look in the fuse box.

Also, I've just noticed that the 90 is leaning a bit towards the drivers side. Are there any causes of this apart from dodgy springs/them not being seated correctly?

Thanks,
Max

Headlights are wired up as you said, no dipped with full beam, you would burn the bulbs out too quick. Are your spots on the front or on the roof? If they are roof lights then dont wire them up to your full beam, roof lights are useless as they just illuminate the bonnet!

A for your radio, its either poor wiring and a loose connection or more than likely its wired up to a poor power supply, it sounds like someone has taken a wire from the lighting circuit. If I was you I would change the power supply wire, the cig lighter is a good one, I personally would run a new wire but thats up to you

They're on the bumper, so will be ok I think.

I'm not sure if it's the power supply wire, as it seems like there's not enough power, because when the lights are on then the horn doesn't work etc. I think I'm going to have the battery checked & was wondering if you can have the alternator tested?

Anyone got any ideas about it leaning to one side?
