Guys, I joined this forum a couple of months ago, when I got my Rangie, and bar a few weeks over the June period, I pop in regularly to see how things is going, and learn a few tips and tricks on the way.

But I note, that the majority of those who do sign up, do so to find the answer to a problem, and once sorted, dont come back till the next problem comes along. I know with RR's that could be quite often..:)

Just a suggestion, but maybe a paid membership or a 'Just Answers' thread, where a small payment is made, might be an idea for the forum owner and those who regularly respond to the threads.

There is a wealth of talent and knowledge on this site amongst the regulars, and this way, profits could be shared a little amongst those people, and thus act as a bit of an incentive to them.

Sorry, Im just thinking out loud here, as I do SO appreciate all the help you guys have given me, and want to be able to give something back ..

there are some serious litigation and liability issues when supplying information for payment it is a mine field and to be honest and if a fee is paid indemnity insurance etc would be required say if someone gave bad advice and someone had paid for it.
I like the way we can help each other on here! There will be a few who use folks but thats the way of life Im afraid!

A membership fee would avoid all that though..

There is a site, which is called Just Answers, and I paid £50 for an opinion, which I didnt object to at all, as I needed 'the opinion' of someone legally trained, and that word opinion is magic, it avoids litigation...lol

I too work for nothing for a national animal welfare charity, and run a website for them, and I do it to help the animals, the people are never grateful...lol

I note there is a donate section to the forums, and I will certainly do that, but it will have to wait till I get the bill for the Rangie, which is now in a Land Rover specialists... fingers crossed it doesnt empty the bank account...lol

yes however you have said legally trained and some contributors on here may not be!

Years ago I belonged to a BMW 7 series forum. It was very busy until £10 a year membership was introduced. It died overnight and even when free membership was reintroduced it was still dead. You will kill this forum if membership fees are introduced!!!!

It would be a bit silly charging for answering questions, cause that would mean you would have to pay someone to give the answers and as this is a collective mind of information who's going to pay who??????.................As I know nothing you can all pay me.

If you want to make a donation to running costs of the site then use the donate button at the top, but paying for answers......I dont think so.

I'm not so sure about that, BMWE36 and Piston Heads are very popular forums, and free, however, I am a member of several forums where we make donations, and although it doesnt stop the 'one stop' visitors, it does help with the forum costs.

I posted before noting that it does have donations, which is good.

However, my line of thought was there are people here who are lifelong, self taught authorities, who know what they are talking about, and I would love to see those guys benefit in some way from that knowledge.

I know, I know, many will say, I benefit merely by helping others.. but it would be fantastic if they could get together and offer a mobile national service or something..

I cant speak for the others but I come on the forum to have a laugh and help out others. I don't expect any reward and shall continue to offer my assistance to the the site as long as I enjoy doing it. The rewards are meeting folk of here and making new friends and getting help when you need it. Money aint everything.

The best way to give back is to share anything you find, document any jobs, and add any thoughts to any of the posted questions. This forum has a lot of members with a lot of knowledge and the bulk of us also have a very good sense of humour ( something you will need with your P38) . I kind of like the free for all manner of the forum, even uneducated replies can make you look at problems from a different angle the ultimatly leads to an answer....

Well, thats fair enough, but there is the other side of the coin, there are people like me, who dont like to accept something for nothing.

I like to pay for what I get.

good reply rewmer and one I can accept. Although I feel I have little to give back other than my support, as Im not mechanically minded, have a memory of a sieve, and have a good sense of humour..fortunately...lol

I love this forum as I was made to feel so welcome when I joined, and I read loads of stuff before buying my Rangie 3 months later.

I also need certifying..what on earth did I buy a rangie for?....

I could... but I aint.....rofl
yes, I know about the donation, and I intend to, after I get the bill for the Rangie in the garage...

It was the uk 7 series register and it was a shame that the forum owners got greedy and killed a really good forum!

it is a shame, when that happens, people are funny though, Im a member of an electronic cigarette forum, and that takes donations, and is doing fantastically well. loads of people donate
