Hi, my 2007 freelander 2 td4 has decided to play up  and would not restart after a 25 mile trip out, pussed the start button on the dash and the engine does n ot even try to turn. The batterys good and after putting my fault code reader on it , it came up with the code C402 or UO402.
Anyone know what the codes are or what the starting problem could be. I need to sort this out by monday as the cars parked at work much to the dislike of my boss. Thanks

Uxxxx would be a ecu communication fault.

Cxxxx wouldn't be a valid fault code. C is used to describe connector numbers.

I would expect a Pxxxx code to explain your issue.

i seem to recall owners fitting a new earth strap between body and engines and this curing a lot of problems, it might also benefit from a a ten minute battery disconnect to reset things.

Itsa auto,,, is it possible the freelander is not recieving that its actually in park ( p ) and so not starting ? are there wires going from the gear leaver system to conferm this ,

Hi it does sound like it is not seeing the gear lever in park - check the instrument pack display as well as the light by the shifter.

Also do your brake lights work as the car needs to see the brake pedal pressed before allowing starting.

Oh, and i've done this aswell, so now thinking its the starter motor

It could be the abs module as it needs to see a brake pressure as well as brake lights to start.

Advise it will be worth getting diagnosis done by dealer or a good independent specialist with the right equipment.

Where are you located?

Where am I ? Lol
I'm near aix en Provence , south of France .
I've just got the free dropped off at a local landy agent and hopefully they might get time today to plug it in and tell me what's actually wrong with it. I'll keep you informed as what they decide the problem is , as you never know , someone else some day know dought will have the same symptoms.
