Whilst investigating coolant loss, I noticed that when warm, a liquid was dripping from under my 1999 4.6 . The dripping was coming from a small rubber (drain) hose clipped vertically to the sump. The aircon was off and the ambient tempreature was 12 degrees (Swansea). Could this dripping be related to the coolant loss ? The system was pressure and compression tested 2 weeks and 1000 miles ago and it passed.

Taste the liquid and see if it is coolant or not - it's pretty obvious if it is! Oh, and don't do more than taste a tiny bit from your finger!! :) Will also be slightly oily feeling if you rub it between your fingers.

Matt.

It might be, I was hoping someone could tell me definitively what the hose was. I thought it might be the aircon drain, but there seemed to be a lot of water considering it wasn't that hot and humid outside. By the way, the taste test was inconclusive. IT seemed slightly oily but tasted neutral

hi i know its a joke but could it be your aircon drain pipes leaking off excess water by chance, tiga

Was going to say that, but he said the a/c was turned off.

If it was coolant (unless someone has completely diluted it) it tastes bitter and pretty horrid! Try it from the reservoir!

Could well be a/c drain off - it can produce quite a lot of condensation. You sure the a/c was turned off (I mean with the off-button) and not just on Auto and you thought it was off because it was a cool day.
