Hi all.
I have a freelander 2002. Has had a recon engine in it. I've changed the thermostat and temperature sender.
Bought another fan control unit. It still not kicking in. It's been into range rover dealers for new clutch and couldn't find any fault with the fan when I told them about the problem. When I touched the another earth to one of the thin cables coming from the fan control unit it kicks in. But stays on. It switches off after a few minutes when ignition switched off.
Any advice appreciated.

I drive it ( his wife) and when stuck in traffic engine gets really hot and water can begin to bubble yet engine fan never kicks in to cool engine.

Is the pressure cap ok? Or the expansion tank split or crazed around the top? If pressure is leaking away, the coolant will boil before the fan comes on.

Does it have AC?

Yes they were but then we put a new fan control unit on and now they don't. HELP its driving me mad!!!

So you have either left something disconnected or a fuse out. Or the replacement controller isn't working.

The engine ECU is responsible for fan operation, using the controller to power the fans.
