I don't have time to trawl through previous CHG threads, unless anyone can post a link to a particularly useful one, but suffice to say the garage has diagnosed that my cylinder head gasket has gone (Petrol freelander 1.8).
Everything fine 'til I took it in for routine service, after which I started to notice coolant loss. May be coincidence or may have been that they used incorect cooling system air bleed procedure.
Garage said that CHG had previously been modified and thermostat repositioned to avoid/remedy usual CHG failure.
I'm now topping up daily but temperature gauge has never indicated overheating.
Assuming the diagnosis is correct, here are my questions:
How long can I drive it round 'til it blows up? It's running fine at the moment.
Is there any chance of a post-warranty claim from LandRover?
I have a private warranty policy ('Motor Care'), what are my chances of a claim?
Cylinder head skimming not covered by warranty - how much does this usually cost?
What are my chances that the CHG failure are the result of dodgy cooling system work?
Thanks,
Matt
