We’ve already seen how skillfully Chinese car manufacturer Zotye managed to create a so-called “Macan” SUV that bared a striking similarity to Porsche’s Cayenne. So similar in fact that Porsche is considering taking legal action against the Chinese automaker. If you thought that this was bad then take a look at the all new Landwind X7 SUV which was scheduled to be released in June 2015. This car is ridiculously similar to the Land Rover Evoque.

It's impossible for any IP action in China as it just doesn't exist.

Fraud is big over there too but nothing is done about it.
 
The Japs are just as bad, I remember in the 70's they bought a Scania and took it out to Japan, stripped it down , copied it and sold it as a Hino. They tried to sell it in England but it was blocked. Parts had to be sent to Southern Ireland where they were assembled for sale. Luckily they never caught on in England due to problems with spares and anti Japanese sentiment. My workshop manager wouldn't entertain the idea of buying them, he did serve in WW2 and wouldn't talk about his experiences
 
This is a stolen design, built with virtually unknown mechanicals and if Land Wind's other cars are anything to go by Euro NCAP | Car Details then we'll need to be suspicious of its safety. Just becuase they've copied the outside, doesn't mean that they've copied the structure too.

Certainly, it has a 6 speed box (Vs 9) and 188 (vs 239) in the petrol powered car and it certainly won't have the off road capability of the LR, if it has 4WD at all.

To quote Autocar, after having seen one: "And it seems that the X7 inherits exterior build issues. There is evident bubbling of paintwork on corners and the gaps of the rear doors and boot are neither regular nor flush with the sides." Anyone who, like me, has assembled a Chinese motorcycle clone from a crated kit, will know exactly what they mean.

To make a joke of this and suggest that it's even the equal of the LR, let a alone better, is adding insult to theft.

First I've heard of it; never had any fit problems on any of the three FL2's I've had from the same factory.

Are you able to provide links to reports of any actual cases?

Not talking about the Gaylander, it's the Ejoke. There was a lot of stuff about problems with panel fits on QA at the end of the line when it first came out, maybe sorted by now. No links, too long ago.
 
I've not heard it called the Gaylander in a while! My daughter called my first one "Gaye" on the basis of that alone ;)

What ever it was, we've not heard of it since. Still not keen on the Evoque though, whether it's the original, or Chinese rip off!

I would never buy a recent Land Rover product too complicated and poorly made, I only have the P38 because I can't afford a decent 4 x 4:rolleyes: The benefit of crap quality and reliability is very low second hand prices.
