Hi all, decided to join so hopefully can help others with problems as this site has been very helpful to me already as you can read post without being a member.
purchased an 03 TD6 l322 170k mileage around 3 months ago as it’s my wife’s dream car. Car was a bit taty/dirty and had been stood for a few months with very short mot. I knew I would probably have to some bits nothing to major. Got ex owner to give me a test drive all seemed great and had receipts for replacement gearbox and air compressor so I thought it’s worth a punt. I did hear a slight rattling sound which sounded like a bad belt idler. One we got insured on the car and done around 20 miles on way home was losing power and black smoke. Limped it home what a smokescreen. Long story short new turbo required all pipe work washed ic washed inlet manifold off and cleaned, egr blank, decated tuning box and many new small vacuum lines as they had turned to dust. And full service. Oil and filter done 3 times so far because turbo debris in oil. Car now runs beautifully and has got some poke! Whilst that work was being carried out by myself the car developed ghosts and started making weird noises out of the speakers really loud Even when the key was out out of the ignition. Done some reading and took a punt on a bmw amplifier in boot which solved problem. Then Mot time, all that was needed where 2x front wishbones (banana shaped). Car needs further improvements and tweaks. Just done front droplinks trying to chase a rattle raised car up next day to off-road mode and pppssttt. I knew what it was front airbag poped. Just got a new pair and in the process of fitting them.
Will this car stop fighting me!
I actually love the car to but that’s why it’s love-hate. I’m also not a mechanic and have limited spare time so when it breaks it’s a pain in the ass.
