extreme power loss

Hi

Are you getting much extra exhaust smoke?

I had an issue with my land rover a couple of years ago. I lost power when driving along the M5 - dropped down to around 20MPH top speed - which was an issue!

I checked the air filter - fine - and did all of the basics. Eventually I noticed that the hose from the turbo to the inter cooler seemed to collapse under hard acceleration.

When I looked inside the hose from the air filter to the turbo, I found a flap of material had half torn off, and when the airflow reached a certain point, the flap blocked the pipe and therefore reduced the power. It took some hunting for, as when there was no airflow, the flap popped back out of view! So the flap was acting as a power limiter.

A knife, some gaffer tape, and I continued on my way.

Henry

Hi henry cheers for the reply. i not long ago changed my turbo hose and it did help, i was actualy get a proper boost out of my turbo rather than half boost.

i noticed that if i was to leave the engine idle you can hear the engin having a bit of a strugle for fuel. there is some smoke but its grey smoke

ok finaly got a chance get everything done!

hed the tank open an took a look at its condition. no rust

changed the filter. still power loss

replaced the lift pump. tiny bit of improvment

check the injectors. there fine

is there anything ells i can check?

cheers

I know this might sound really stupid... but dont think anyone has asked....

your handbrake drum is not sticking is it?

not from what i know mate, the handbreak seems to be working sound. unless its not coming off properly and its rubbing on the inside of the drum. is there any way i can test it or would it invilv me taking the drum off?

cheers

Just one more thing to check and it's cheap....there is a small filter inside the banjo bolt that bolts the fuel return pipe to the back of the pump. Worth taking it out and cleaning the small gauze filter inside the shank, it's only small.
keep you busy.:)

choke the wheels, hand brake off, and rear wheels up, it should spin freely
when the wheels are jacked up off the dloor i can spin the read wheels freely with my hands. dose this rule it out?

Yes...ruled out.
Just a thought, is your throttle cable ok, not come loose or owt, just get someone to press it and make sure the lever on the pump goes all the way:)
