I bought a AWD 4 Cyl. Highlander last week. Among the reasons that I
selected the 160 Hp 2.4 litter 4cyl engine is the MPG and the cost of
gasoline. The MPG of the 4cyl engine is 21 city /25 Hiway, about 1 MPG
lower than those of Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester (22/26) but I got a
bigger SUV. With the $750 rebate from Toyota, I got a good deal. For
about $2,000 more than the CR-V, RAV4, and Forester, I got a much
better SUV.

One of the problem is not many dealers and auto magazines, including
Consumer Reports, know that Premium gasoline is recommended for the
Highlander V6 3.3 litter engine. The dealers will not tell buyers that
info for fear of not being able to sell the V6 at good price.
Consummers can still use the 87 Octane for the V6 Highlander, but the
performance will be poor and they will end up with a much lower MPG
(15/21?) and the engine may knock after a few years. Only by reading
the Toyota manual and many car magazines that I selected the 4 cyl.
engine that 87 octane gasoline is recommended. It is unfortunate that
consumers must read carefully before selecting the type of engine.

I went to Edmunds.com and got the quotes from 4 dealers. In my
experience the quotes from Internet sales dealers are much better than
the quotes from non-Internet dealers. I saved at least $500 buy buying
the car from the lowest bid dealer provided by Edmunds.com. And I
saved a lot of time.
