Hi there,

I'm thinking of a mini-mini-expedition around the UK.

I'm in Hereford so will be setting off from here, and I'm thinking of either going doing a big loop around the coast of Wales over 5 days, or driving up to North Wales, and then across to North Yorkshire, and then back home in a sort of upside down triangle shape, over 5 days.
However I'm open to ideas, and other routes/ places to go?

The plan is to do a mixture of wild camping and a night or two in B&Bs, and sort of meander through the scenery taking in only B roads where possible and enjoying the journey as much as the destinations. Potentially doing around 150 miles per day?

The likelihood is I'll be doing it in my series,

My questions are two fold;
1. What would you suggest taking with me in terms of spares for the series? and also cheap accessories/ alterations for the wagon? (I've seen people add bookshelfs, portable DVD players, and allsort of stuff to the cab for overlanding, but is there anything worthwhile doing for a week long trip?
2. Any suggestions on routes to do/ places to visit? (I'd quite like to visit the heartbeat set, and spend a night or two in Snowdonia as I love it).

I'm open to new suggestions of places to go. It's my girlfriend and I who are going. My old man suggested we do a similar route that he and my mum did a few years ago, all over Scotland in their RRC, however my girlfriend thinks that might be a bit far to go for just a week, and knowing her, she'll be bored just following roads and spending a week "just driving around".

Has anyone done this sort of thing before?

Another series, just strap one on the top..............this has the added benefit of fulfilling the roll of a roof tent until needed.

Remember to take extra fuel if camping in the wild........fire is not only a comfort but a sensible safety precaution and will discourage the packs of wild hunting sheep and tyres are not as easy to set alight as many people think.

As always when traveling in strange corners of the world, learning a little of the local customs and language will earn you respect and get you out of many a tight spot.

''Ta Fii'' is a phase akin to 'brother' and will help you to be accepted in one of the many drinking establishments......especially useful if things are getting a little rowdy.

Remember to be especially respectful to police officers who are best addressed as 'Ship Shaa Geerr' meaning 'My Elder'

Most importantly, Wales has never fully decided whether to drive on the left or the right, indeed, on some stretches of road it is necessary to swop back and forth numerous times. This is less complicated and dangerous than it would at first appear, and the roads are clearly marked at such crossing places with the word 'ARAF'

Enjoy and safe journey :p

I don't think you really need any spares for a Series landie for a trip around the UK? In the worst case scenario, if you need spares, stop at a B&B and get the parts on next day delivery to wherever you are :) Fit a stereo, have a handy place for quick access to driving snacks and enjoy :)
