Exhaust wrap, do you use it?

Evening all,

I fitted a new middle and rear section to my exhaust about 5 months ago and my rear section is already pretty rusty...

Does anyone know of anything I can wrap around it to protect it from the elements as I can't a full stainless system just yet?!

I've read mixed reviews about exhaust wrap and wondered if anyone else has tried this?

just fit a mild steel one and let it rot…….

generally rot from inside out so dont see much point in wrapping it.

fit stainless if you want to stay on the road
fit mild if you want to go off the tarmac occasionally
fit exhaust wrap on performance racers for track days for keeping those gases running through headers and pipes very hot

exhaust repair wrap is a slightly different thing. ultimately like gun gum....bit of a bodge to delay the first two options above

The exhaust wrap you refer to is primarily used to keep heat out of the engine bay of high performance rally cars and the like, it will not stop corrosion.

Wrap the headers if you want and possibly the downpipe but leave the rest but its a waste of money

Yep, as said the wrap wont help, it will retain water when parked up and the exhaust rusts inside out anyway. Exhaust wrap is there to keep exhaust gas temperatures up allowing for better performance....

Errrmmmmmm no, it's to keep engine bay temperature down, helps stop engines at full chat from overheating.

It keeps the heat in the exhaust, hot exhaust gasses travel faster giving improved performance! It also keeps under bonnet temps down!
