Hello All!
Drove a 300tdi Hi Cap 110 up from Dundee yesterday, about 100 miles. Bought it off of some tree surgeons on a muddy back road, and didn't get a chance to check underneath. This morning I got under there and there's a big hole in the mid box of the exhaust, right across the "Britpart" logo.

Is this a home swap or should I take it to a garage with a lift? I have a decent chap who does the MOTs of the family vehicles.

Which parts manufacturer should I use?

Should I get it in stainless?

p.s first post, 4th landy in family, learned to drive in a first gen county, previous landy was a Puma 110 which was in an accident which killed it and an 80s John Deere but didn't hurt anyone else. Thanks!

If the rest of the exhaust is ok just replace the rotten section.
Have a look at Paddocks or similar parts supplier for it.
It's easy to replace the section, just a couple of bolts ( which will have rusted solid so cut them off ), buy new bolts, the parts supplier will have them.

Maybe, although if you have to ask....

Exhausts are not difficult, but can end up being a PITA, depends how rusted and how easy them come apart. Be warned, if one bit is gone, the rest may follow.

Which parts manufacturer should I use?
Depends, how much do you want to spend?

Should I get it in stainless?
Again, depends. It'll cost ya. But that might be worth it. Only you can tell us what is or isn't too expensive. You'll find loads of options if you use Google...

If you are doing the job yourself it virtually never pays for itself to go stainless due to the price difference. You need to swap it something like 10 times to break even which is 30 odd years of use. However having said that that is based purely on parts cost. If you are paying someone else to do the pay back it is probably only twice. Lots of places will only sell you a complete stainless system. But I used a Double ‘S’ stainless section last time I did mine as you could buy them section at a time rather than needing to replace the whole system.

Another vote for paddocks and britpart part if you are just replacing like for like.
Double ‘S’ if going stainless.

I would say it’s a home swap even for someone who is just starting out with tools (not suggesting you are just that it’s an entry level job in my opinion)

I would use stainless bolts even if fitting a standard exhaust. From memory they are just m8 bolts of a suitable length.
