HI.....As you may well no I was going to buy a freelander with a water problem.....but decided not to ... I'm now looking at a 53plate 1.8 petrol....failed it's mot on the lambda sensor is this a big job and will it cost alot of money....???

Nope, i don't know how much a lambda sensor is the a freelander but i replaced one on my polo recently and it was £55 i think. Eurocar parts seem to do 30% off every weekend, so worth checking there.

Also might be worth checking all the pipes around the engine, the polo had an error code which caused me to replace the lambda but it was actually a cracked pipe for the crank case breather causing the car to run lean.

In terms of replacing, they just screw in and plug into the ECU. id recommend buying an actual one for your car with the right connector and not a universal one, and don't buy budget.

Just had a look in the oil and the filler cap and mayo in it....and when I looked into the top of the engine it was also like mayop...headgasket maybe .....

Replacement of the HG is needed then. Make sure you get as much information on how to complete the HG change correctly as you can;)

Picked it up this evening drives and runs smoothly no over heating problem nice and responsive when I put my foot down.....sat in it outside my house ticking over for an hour no overheating nothing

It's in the early stages of HGF. Get it sorted before it overheats. Once it's overheated, the head is scrap.
