Excessive smoke from oil filler cap. ?

Hmm yes good point, although, I'm kind of working by myself, and have no hoist! I'm reluctant to bother my usual helper, my bro in law, as it has only been a couple of weeks since he helped change gearbox/clutch.
Im hoping the rest of my engine is ok, and indeed the donor engine too!!

The most common type of blown head gasgit on a series motor is one thats blown between the pots and acompresion test will show this up.

i had a dodgy engine so got another, i rebuilt it to (make sure) it was a goodun, while rebuilding it i still used the truck with the old engine in it, finished swapping the engines over today and can tell you four things that may be helpfull.
1.rebuilding an engine is a ball ache, it took me 4 days and i didnt enjoy it one bit.
2. swapping the engines was a piece of weewee and i enjoyed doing it. that took me 2 days.
3. james diagnosed the exact problem with my engine from badly described symtoms. lots of people claim to be "experts" and are not, however james was bang on the money and very helpfull.
4. the symtoms you are describing are exactly the same as the ones i had. eventually my engine was running on its own engine oil. it was worn bores and rings causing it.

Thanks. That does help. I will replace the engine I have with the 'new' one.. Hoping it is better.. Luckily it comes with some spate bits I could use. Not sure what I will do with the old engine though.. Any ideas? Other than scrap. Not really that keen on having it hanging around to rebuild, as I probably won't have the time, and need the space.
Luckily found a good landy mechanic around here that I will help to save time/money.

you will get bugger all for it if you sell it. if you have a place you can store it out the way put it thier and forget about it untill you need bits of it or your other engine breaks.

if you cant store it stick it on ebay as is, someone will buy it after all i once sold a dog turd on ebay for 11p.
