Any suggestions what to check my 06 freelander 1 is smoking bad mainly black smoke which is occasionally blue to the point you can't see behind you and constantly surrounded by a cloud of smoke. Happens all the time not really worse under load or when cold etc. it's running rough and sounds rough sounds like it's missing and the car seems to judder when parked up. I wouldn't say it's lacking in power though maybe slightly in the lower gears. Any suggestions what to check or what your first thought would be?

Take a look at all the intercooler hoses, the EGR hose, you are looking for any tiny splits, press the hoses to see, also when was the last time you changed the PCV filter

EGR hose.

Just had a look and nothing that we can see. Filter was done around this time last year. Just checked oil which has increased since yesterday?

Did you measure the oil with the engine at the same temperature?

A hot engine will expand the oil by up to 0.5L over a cold one depending on the capacity of the engine - I think if the engine's capacity is 7L cold, when hot it will expand to almost 7.5L
