Ex-MOD or Civvie 90?

Hi all - first post, so please be gentle!

I'm looking at buying another Landy shortly (I had a 109 SIII with a badly installed V8 about 10 years ago) and fancy a 90 - the question I have though, is should I go for an ex-MOD one or a Civvie model?

I'm only looking at spending a couple of grand and don't mind if it needs some work (or even a fair bit of work!)....

Any responses gratefully received!!!

ex mod ones tend to be looked after with no thought to cost yer civvies one don't all have that going for them. also the mod ones have about 10foot of underseal on them so less chance of chassis rot. another think to consider is that before the mod ones go to auction they have to pass an inspection so most faults are rectified before hand. (daft , i know but how it wer when i wer in de army)

What are the costs for parts like? I assume that the MOD ones are heavy duty bits and as a result attract a premium?
 
I'm trying to steer away from an FFR!

So I guess the overall answer is that its worth getting the ex-MOD one....

Just need to find one in my budget now then!

Any idea what I am likely to get for a budget of around £2000? Or do I need to sell another kidney on ebay?

RAV: check out www.milweb.net for ex-mil Rovers for sale. Then take a look at www.emlra.org for a preview of what happens to you after you get one (they've got a forum too, but you can't join until you can tell 'em how many rivets are in a Series 2a Lightweight).
You can pick-up a scabby 90 for a couple of grand, but if you're handy with a hammer and a pair of moleys then you'll have (relatively) few probs coz, as the Slobmeister says, ex-military LRs are generally good where it matters.

I'm reasonably handy with a hammer - need to pass the Moleys course yet though! Did a load of work on my previous Landy, so I should be able to cope!

All I need now is to find an Series 2a Lightweight and get counting then!!
