Wow, start off by saying its a while since ive logged in!
had a few land rovers by now and picked up a vehicle ive been wanting for a long long time
a td5 110 county!
this particular model started life as one of Land Rover Special Vehicle's and built for the RAF for mountain rescue
still has most of the kit on it apart from the siren
s
flew up to Scotland to pick her up and drove back overnight 11 hours to london as the hotel prices on Saturday night went through the roof!
pics before, pics after i picked it up and the project begins!

Drove back fine and was -3 the whole way only making the one stop for fuel :)
did notice a grinding sound on front left when parking and full lock, similar sound to many cars on cheap coilovers so wasnt overly concerned until i went to drive it to the missus house to watch the AJ ruiz fight and clonk
no drive!
put her into difflock and limped back ok, following day I jacked up the noisy corner with difflock on and sure enough, free wheeling!
waiting patiently until the weekend to investigate further but sounds like halfshaft/cv joint?

Most likely a CV, easy to check their condition, you can either pull the swivel pins out and flop the swivel housing out the way or as I prefer to do, remove the hub and stub axle, it's always good to check the wheel bearings while you're in there.

Nice project  Good wee trip as well, when I went for latest D1 we left straight after work 5pm started at 5 am, drove to Wales bought it & drove straight back got back home at 7.30am :D

Lovely Landy there, what is going on with the rear section? Looks like its a station wagon with the rear windows blocked off? I quite fancy doing something similar to mine.

Will take the halfshaft and cv out over the weekend weather permitting!
and yes i believe it started life as a County before land rover special vehicles got their hands on it,
They are metal window inserts, and the inside is a secure bolt in cage with a deadlock on the rear door
I was informed because of its mountain rescue nature, they carried morphine and such in the back and needed to keep it secure
also has an upgraded alarm which is hooked up to the sirens and is LOUD if you forget to turn that off haha!
I am hoping to reference the mountain rescue some-how in its restoration but unsure how, may have the logo on the back or doors;
