EX MOD 1985 n/a 2.5 110 - Advice please

Totally agree - the 2.5 n/a is fine by me. Gets you away from the rush of things - trundling down the lanes is like being back in the 50's. I even think the sound is sort of soothing after a while - you get used to no radio and the steady rumble of the engine.

Hi all,

couple of questions I'm sure you guys will be able to answer;

what kind of mpg do you get on the old 2.5 n/a diesel

and

on the Witham's web****e, it gives a choice of gearboxes on the 90's, Choice of Oil cooled LT 77 or R380. What did you guys go for? and what are the pros and cons?

also, gives a choice of normal or Wolf Style Heavy duty Rims, what did you go for?

thanks in advance :)

Can't remember mpg from na. It was less than the 200tdi i have in it now though. You don't choose what gearbox or wheels they fit. You choose the land rover and it comes as is. Most are lt77 with wolf wheels. The auction land rovers are only the rougher examples. They have loads to choose from not on their site. If you want one then phone them and head down and browse.

There's loads of them. these were just the ones parked out back when I visited. They had loads everywhere.

Lucifus..... that first pic shows a box on top of the wing - my MOD 90 has one too, and I was wondering what it was - any ideas?

Best I can come up with is maybe an aerial mount or something?....... although it's just the right size for a sandwich ;)

Cheers

Yes they are for mounting comms equipment. My 110 has them and I've left them on. I like the look with all the extra mod mounting points everywhere.

Yeah..... just on the driver's side....... HOWEVER, I don't think the passenger's wing-top is original - the paint is a different shade, and looks brush-painted, while the other panels still have the original spray-finish.

I have 2 XMOD Landy's (1986 90 and a 1987 110 5k miles on a new rebuilt engine), I just finished a trip in early December in my 90 (ex Cyprus 62K on the clock, with original engine), 4500KM from the UK to Romania, with multiple areas in between. Avg'd around 28mpg for the entire trip. Had to replace the starter in Holland and oil sump gasket and rear seal in Romania, wasn't the fastest, but it drove fine, the hills were somewhat of an issue, but got going fast down them, that helped on the next one, most of the time had to go down to 3rd for Austria etc, but on the straight aways hit 60-65 mph with no issues. My 110 is going to get a 200 tdi put in it this spring, will use that for towing and as an excursion vehicle, the 90 I want to keep as is, just to drive around the hills, short trips etc. just purchased all new PAS parts to put on it so parking in the cities will be a lot easier backing into tight places. I also chose 2 soft tops, just love the sides rolled up, retro fitted a Rad/Haz kit in my 90 and it is a world of difference in noise and temp.

Lucifus-your 110 looks great..

Heres mine. Just got it in October. Smashing condition. The soft top was replaced with a PVC one so its pretty much maintainance free. Gonna buy some new seats for the front to replace the Militarty ones. I was really surprised at how clean and weld free the chassis was. Also the bulkhead looks brand new. When i first started looking at buying one, I was very surprised at how good and solid ex MOD ones were.

Hi mate

I wouldnt say there was any difference in thickness. However I would say the canvas is stronger (if that makes sense). The PVC looks better though and is a lot easier to clean. No need for waterproofing or treating it to make it look new again. The one on mine is a lovely tight fit with no flapping about or anything. Well pleased with it :)

Thanks for the info, I have seen some of the PVC ones available, but they always say they are for the WOLF, or they are missing parts. I assume those will not work due to the higher hoops on the WOLF, where did you get yours? I have also seen some that appear to have side windows, have you seen these?

hi mate. mine came like that and mine is just bog standard 90 so you must be able to get them. Aint seen them with side windows though

That is one that I have seen before, it has sides windows, but no rear flap. I wonder what could be used for a rear flap, I would be worried about major water leakage, or issues with the seam if one was sewn on or modified to fit.
